Text Box: Stress Management
Stress Management is a group where we talk about what stresses us out and how to handle personal stress and stressful situations. Music is a big part of my life. Many people at CAL use music to deal with stressful events to help them relax. One thing we spent a long time on this year in stress management was a section about music therapy. It helped me understand which music I use for fun and which music helps me to calm down. We've done other things to manage stress too, like learning to tell when we're getting mad or upset, and then deciding how to get out of the situation.

Brain Group
In Brain Group we learn about how the brain works and how it affects everything we do. We spend a lot of time on understanding how our disabilities affect our everyday lives and our relationships. We've learned about impulsivity and obsessiveness and the executive functions. The thing we probably talk about the most is judgment because problems with executive functions lead to problems with judgment.

Problem Solving
In Problem Solving Group we talk about all sorts of problems, such as personal problems, friendship issues, and the importance of community and respect.  One thing we focused on this year was how to say "No!"  It is really hard to say no, especially to friends.  We did one exercise where we had to try anything to get someone to give us a soda.  The other person's only job was to say no! It was fun!
