CENTER FOR ADAPTIVE LEARNING

A Key to Individual Potential for Adults with Neurodevelopmental Disabilities

CAL maintains apartments and townhouses located within walking distance of public transportation and BART, shopping, religious institutions, the library and other community services. Clients occupy two bedroom apartments, two clients per apartment. Most apartments have washers and dryers or a community laundry room, and most have dishwashers.  Some apartments have two bathrooms. Apartment living is provided within the greater community to facilitate the learning of typical living skills. Insofar as they are able, clients are responsible for their apartment living, including planning and preparation of meals.

Text Box: APARTMENT COMPLEXES

CAL currently operates a 6000 square foot administrative office building at 3227 Clayton Road in Concord, California. The administration building houses staff offices, classroom activities, clinical services, as well as vocational training (on the job training) to support more than 40 client community members. Adjacent to the administration building is one of three apartment complexes utilized for CAL client residences.

Additionally, CAL has begun to focus resources toward land/property acquisition. Ownership of residential property will help to better control the cost of housing and facilitate the creation of an environment with classroom learning centers, dormitories, a cafeteria and clinical support in a campus style setting.
