The Center for Adaptive Learning has been serving the Bay Area for over 19 years with programs and living facilities designed to support adults in developing their full potential. The Center serves over 40 adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities in a model program of residential care and comprehensive support services.

Each adult who comes to the Center for Adaptive Learning brings a unique set of needs and aptitudes. The staff, together with the client, the parents and other involved parties, tailors an individualized program of goals and objectives towards individual potential.

   Philosophy

The Center for Adaptive Learning philosophy is based on the premise that every individual has worth and can learn if taught in their learning style. Every individual is to be honored and treated with dignity. Our clients’ family values will be respected. Our clients’ family members will be considered members of the CAL team, and their opinions and concerns heard. The cornerstone of the CAL program is "Understanding and Compassion."

Let no person be demeaned nor have their wonder diminished because of ignorance or inactivity. Let no person be deprived of discovery because we lack the resources to discover their problem. Let no person ever doubt their mind or themselves because we are unsure of our commitment”. (Reed Martin)

Those who are handicapped, physically challenged, or what have you, are all gifted in some way!    No one is totally devoid of the talent to give something to life. The trick is just discovering what it is”. B. Charles Pellegrin; CAL Student, 1989

If our clients can't learn the way we teach them,

we had better teach them the way they learn.

LDA; (Paraphrased)
